The Saltwater Flyfishers Association Sunshine Coast Inc meets the 1st Thurday evening every month except January at 7.30pm at the Mooloolaba Coast Guard Building, Parkyn Parade Mooloolaba. The meetings are full of interest to any person who enjoys flyfishing. Guest speakers are often on the agenda to give expert information on the various subjects involved with or connected to the pastime of flyfishing. Club members are provided with the opportunity to participate in demonstrating or to observe the art of flytying; these demos are usually conducted to provide members with the information they need to procure the right fly for the type of fish targeted at the next club fishing day/weekend, also advice is given on how to fish the flies and where and when to use them. The 'around the room chat' allows members to divulge the species they have been catching and where this usually gets everyone fired up and ready for their next day out with the rod and flies. A raffle is also held at each meeting, with refreshments also available for a small price. We pride ourselves on being a very friendly family oriented Club, and welcome anyone who is interested, to come along to our meetings to see if they would like to become a member. Each month there is an opportunity for club members to fish and camp specific areas, usually suggested by the Club Captain, who will help you out with directions to the site and advice on camping facilities and fishing spots. Areas fished include fresh water catchments, rivers and open bays. If possible boat rides are organised for people without boats, and experienced flyfishers help the inexperienced - in no time they are catching fish frequently! Members receive a Monthly Newsletter either by email, whichever is preferred. Anyone can contribute to the newsletter, in fact information about activities is appreciated by the Editor. The Club Calendar is often featured in several editions periodically, along with results of previous outings, and information about the next outing supplied.' Each year the Club organises two prestige Fly fishing tournaments. The "Longtail Tuna Chase" which provides a lot of interest during the peak time of Tuna being in the Mooloolaba Bay Area. And the "Bass on Fly" Tournament held at Lake Macdonald in the Noosa hinterland. Other clubs and people are welcome to participate and trophies and prizes are presented at the end of each event.
